Abstract

The system absorbs peak pressures occurring in a pump inlet or outlet when the pump chamber is connected to one or the other, by varying the volume available for the fluid at one or more first positions. The variation is controlled by the pressure peaks themselves, recorded at second positions where they occur, between the first positions and the pump chamber. The command signals can be transmitted from the second to the first positions by mechanical means. In the case of a ram pump, particularly as used for diesel engine fuel injection, there can be one or more variable-volume chambers (40, 60) communicating with the inlet and outlet (21, 23), and with actuators (43, 63) sensitive to pressure peaks at points between these chambers and the pump chamber.
