Abstract

The brakes of the heavy vehicle are fitted with a double control valve (20) linked to the rear suspension by a control rod (13). The valve distributes the braking effort between the front and rear brakes so that the braking effort is altered with rear axle loading. The two parts of the valve are incorporated in a single housing for a simple layout. A developed valve can be double in design with each part linked to one side of the rear axle by a separate control rod. The differential loading on the rear axle can then be accommodated for better braking control. The system has a fail-safe interlock which provides normal braking when the differential braking control drops out.
