Abstract

The friction coupling has coaxial driving and driven members whose adjacent surfaces each have a helical groove in which is fitted a wire. A friction surface (G) acts between the pinion (P) and the flange (F) of the outer component. A torsion spring (R) has its ends located in bores in the flange and a plate (V) located by a nut. Under heavy load conditions, the wire (H) acts as a thread allowing movement of the outer component along the inner component along the inner component against the torsion spring.
