Abstract

AmO2 is prepd. from a soln. of Am nitrate by (1) neutralising the soln. by adding NH3 in a quantity up to 1M HNO3 per litre and then adding oxalic acid pref. as solid, (2) adjusting the Ph to 2.5 by addn. of NH3 or NH4OH to ppte. Am oxalate which is sepd. by filration and (3) calcining the Am oxalate at 450-800 degrees to form AmO2. Before sepn. of the Am oxalate, the reaction liq and suspension obtd are maintained in circulation for about 1 hr.
