Abstract

The connection connects a gas-isolated (eg SF6) tubular HV line to an oil-filled transformer. A hollow cone (16) is fixed and sealed to the outside of the transformer housing (24) and encloses the feedthrough (22) from the transformer's internal connection. The HV line's conductor (14) extends through the apex of this cone and connects with the end of the feedthrough. The conductor's casing (10) mates with the flange around the base of the cone. The space inside the cone is hermetically sealed and filled with the same isolating gas as the HV line and at approx. the same pressure. The oil pressure inside the transformer is less than the gas pressure (i.e. is roughly atmospheric).
