Abstract

When large pipes of one to two metres in diameter have to be supported inside protecting outer tubes, the pipes are often damaged when being installed. To overcome this problem, the inner pipe is fitted with a number of support pads. Each pad consists of a rectangular bar (1) with chamfered ends (4) and a number of transverse slots. The lower surface of the bar (1) is bonded to a support plate (5). The pads are then fitted in rows around the pipe and secured by bands (3) which pass through the slots (2). The pipe is then easily guided into the outer supporting tube without risk of being damaged.
