Abstract

The fixing is used in sheet metal to provide a bearing surface (16) or a location for a screw. It is made of plastic and has a projecting base (30) which is passed through a hole in the sheet metal (14), up to a flanged seating (20). This base has a tapped central hole (28), axial slits being provided to enable the hole to close in slightly when inserted into position. A screw (34) is threaded into the hole, an initial coned portion opening it out. When the base has gripped the sides of the hole, the head (36) of the screw, being necked (38), breaks off.
