Abstract

The hydrofoil craft has two or more pairs of discs (15) mounted on drive shafts extending sideways from the hull at an angle to the surface of the water. Each disc is rotated by a drive through its shaft, to assist the travel of the craft with the hull supported above water level. The drive shafts can slide telescopically inside guide sleeves through the hull, and each can be driven through a bevel gear drive by a drive unit at the centre. The guide sleeves are attached to curved sealing plates inside and outside the hull so that these plates can slide around the curved face of the hull to vary the angle of the drive shaft so as to raise and lower the discs. This sliding movement is caused by a power cylinder between the shafts, with a piston each end connected to a corresponding guide sleeve.
