Abstract

A rotating three-dimensional surface, to which the boundary layer of a moving fluid can adhere is composed of a randomly open-celled material as (pref. thin) covering for an impermeable support; the dia. increases in the downstream direction, at least for part of the length. The cellular covering may be plastic, ceramic or metal, and may line the support on the convex or concave side. The rotating covered surface may be used to make, e.g. a noise-free ventilator opening, or a turbulence-free flow accelerator, and is esp. useful for liq. or gas sepn. processes.
