Abstract

The unit enables a blind person to detect obstacles, analysing light reflected by a beam emitted by the unit. This information is transformed into an audible signal to provide a warning. A battery supplies power to a light emitting system through a switching circuit, the beam being focused through a lens into the required direction. An optical system receives the reflected light signal and focuses it onto photoelectric cells. These provide electrical impulses corresponding to the light image and these are fed into an electronic circuit. This gives a variable frequency audible signal, supplied to the user through an electro-acoustic unit.
