Abstract
Each reinforcement (1) of the free tie-bar consists of a number of parallel juxtaposed steel wires, particularly of an axial steel wire (1a) surrounded by several steel wires (1b) which are parallel to the axial wire (1a) but of smaller dia. The end of the reinforcement (1) passes through a hole (17) in the tie plate (16) where its held by cotter pins (17) forced into the widened out part of the hole (17). The shape of the cotter pins (18) should fit that of the wide part of the hole (17) in the tie plate (16).
