Abstract

Device for monitoring the impact between the ends of tubes fed through a rolling mill uses a detector connected to control appts. The tubes travel through a conical inlet guide and then into a ring-shaped housing contg. the detector. The parallel end of the bore in the inlet guide has the same or a smaller dia. than the inlet bore on the housing, and the dia. of the inlet and outlet bores on the housing is smaller than the bore of the detector. Used e.g. on cold pilger rolling mills. The detector is completely shielded so it can not be hit by tubes or tube blanks being rolled. When the size of tube or tube blank is changed, the detector complete with its housing is changed.
