Abstract

A metering feeder is claimed for transferring granular material into the injector throat of a pneumatic conveying line. A supply hopper gravity-feeds the material to a powered metering device which transfers it at a controlled rate into the injector. The metering device is pref. a rotary vane feeder valve driven by a low voltage motor with electronic speed control. The rotary valve should have interchangeable rotors with different delivery capacities at constant speed rotation. Delivery from the metering device is pref. by gravity into an injector passage of rectangular cross-section. A pivoted deflector plate is hinged at the upstream edge of the transfer port between feeder delivery and injector passage. The deflector plate can have its downstream edge raised until it completely closes the transfer port or lowered to allow granules to merge into the air stream. Several feeders can proportion cereals to a common grinding mill to deliver a flour feeding compound for farm animals such as cattle, pigs and poultry. Unlike scre feeders, the new system does not easily block with rubbish and foreign bodies. Proportioning is easily regulated.
