Abstract
Compensation for large mains voltage variations is provided by a single phase autotransformer with several inputs to which connexions are made via electronic switching elements to form an open loop regulator. The mains voltage is detected by a transformer and rectifier with a harmonic filter at the output. Schmidt trigger circuits each sense a range of voltage level and provide a logic signal output for gating circuits. The gating circuits outputs are amplified to control triac switching elements when the voltage across a series shunt is zero. The switching elements connect the mains supply to a tapping on an auto transformer to which the load is connected.
