Abstract

Blow moulding machine is used for making plastics articles and comprises a core mandrel on which a plastics blank is placed and then transported into the blow mould. Equipment is provided on the mandrel to enable a gas-entrained mist of liq. to be injected into the blow moulding while in contact with the inner surface of the mouls, in order to cool it rapidly. This mist circulates into the moulding through the mandrel and returns out of it also through the mandrel. The mist-circulation arrangement pref. comprises inlet ducts discharging at openings on the side of the mandrel into the mould cavity, and outlet ducts which have their inlet openings at the extreme tip of the mandrel. The mist thus circulates through the entire length of the blow moulding. By circulating a cooling mist, e.g., fine water droplets entrained by air, the cooling time of the blow moulding is considerably reduced. Since this cooling time is normally longer than that for blow moulding and removing of the moulding, a redn. in cooling time enables the entire cycle time to be reduced.
