Abstract

Power supply rail is intended to be mounted on a wall or ceiling etc. such that power can be taken off at any point along its length. The design is intended to fulfill safety requirements and be simply installed. The rail (1) is 'U' shaped, the concave surface faces the user and contains varying numbers of conductors (4, 5, 6). The cross-section of the walls of the 'U' is sufficiently thick to carry two inward facing slots (12, 13) of differing sizes. A single shallow slot (14) facing forward on one side of the 'U' serves to secure the power take off adapter in place. The parallel conductors are part buried in an insulator (15) lining the rail. The adaptor comprises a main body which remains outside the rail and a bayonet fitting head which goes inside the rail and carries electrical contacts. The contacts are brought in touch with the conductors in the rail by a twisting action which also engages plastic retaining lugs into the slots in the rail.
