Abstract

The steam generator is of the type incorporating a shell through which a heating fluid passes and a tube or coil, in the shell, through which a fluid being heated passes, partic. a steam generator using liq. sodium as heating agent, for use in a nuclear reaction power station. Counter-current heat transfer takes place in the regions of single-phase flow in which the liq. being heated, e.g. water is preheated in the liq. phase and in which it is superheated in the gaseous phase, while parallel flow heat transfer takes place in a region of two-phase flow in which the water is evaporated. The steam generator is free from the disadvantages of existing generators which use a counter-current heat exchanger. These disadvantages are that large fluctuations of temp. occur in a region where the boiling changes from nuclear boiling to film boiling, and these result in thermal stresses on the tube, leading to fatigue and to damage.
