Abstract

A "greenhouse effect" is produced in a polyethylene film by addn. of microspheres of monocalcic glass, pref. of 10 mu mean dia. and having a true density of 2.45 (apparent density 1.5). The glass microspheres are introduced into the polyethylene in the form of a mixt. contg. 30% of microspheres. This mixt. is added to the extent of 20-25% to the polyethylene when the film is being extruded. A more uniform "greenhouse effect" is obtd. than with the minerals usually added to the polyethylene. Used in solar absorbers as well as greenhouses.
