Abstract

Device, for the detection of gas leaks by means of an atomised foaming liq. prod. in aerosol form, having a reservoir contg. a propellant, e.g. a gas under press. provided with an atomising nozzle and a control valve. The liq. prod. is chemically neutral and has a superficial tension and viscosity suitable for the formation of a continuous film on an object by spraying. The liq. prod. is pref. demineralised water and Na dibutynaphthalene sulphonate in 5-5.5% concn. and/or an anhydrous Na alkylnaphthalene in 1.8-2% conc. A polyglycolic ether, Na3PO4 and a thickening agent such as methyl-cellulose may also be present. The propellant is pref. CO2. A dispersant such as "texaphor" and an anti-corrosion agent such as NaNO3 may also be added. The spray is better than conventional soap solns. as it allows detection of gas escapes of 10 millibars press. The spray does not react with the gas, does not attack metal conduits or plastic parts, has good storage qualities, is non-inflammable and maintains its form as a dispersion.
