Abstract

Prodn. of 3-alkoxybut-1-ene (I) and alkyl trans-butenyl ether (II) comprises reacting butadiene (III), or a C4-fraction contg. it, with a lower, pref. 1-4C, alkanol (IV) in the presence of an SO3H-gp. contg. cation exchanger. Reaction is at 90-140 degrees C under a press which keeps (III) liq. (I) and (II) are intermediates for syntheses, e.g. hydrogenation to satd. ethers or selective oxidation to vinyl alkyl ketones. Both cpds. are prepd. simultaneously, in about equal amts., from readily available materials.
