Abstract

The sealing ring (15a) has a circular outer section (17a) joined by a neck (18a) to a thicker inner section (16a). The thicker inner section is clamped in the groove formed between the valve plate (5a) and the clamping ring (6a). The clamping ring groove extends radially outwards into a groove of trapezoidal section. When the sealing ring (15a) is exposed to pressure the outer portion (17a) is pressed into the trapezoidal groove without the material of the ring being extruded through the gap between the valve plate and the valve bore. This allows the use of a sealing ring with sufficient flexibility to accommodate any eccentricity between valve plate and bore.
