Abstract
An automatic dispenser for simultaneously positioning several tablets, which have been impregnated with different antibiotics, on a culture medium seeded with a germ to be tested. The medium is pref. on an agar base in a Petri dish. The dispenser is loaded with several vertical cartridges each filled with a supply of tablets. The bottom tablet extends below each cartridge so that a transfer plate can simultaneously move all these bottom tablets horizontally clear of the cartridges to ejector positions where a set of vertical plungers can push them down on to the culture medium. Sequential actions of a single manual actuator first move the transfer plate over and then depress the vertical plungers. The plungers pref. push circular tablets through cylindrical guide passages which have a dia. slightly smaller than that of the tablets, e.g. about 0.05 mm. less. A single handle is pref. first rotated to move the transfer plate and then depressed to make the plungers eject tablets. A release catch can be fitted to the transfer plate to hold it against spring-loaded return until transferred tablets have been ejected. Operating speed can be increased as there is no danger of loading two tablets at once into an ejector.
