Abstract
The two parallel transverse cables at approximately the same height above the landing strip (2) form part of a continuous loop of cable. The cable runs over fixed pulleys (3,4,5,6) on either side of the strip and the loop is then taken forward, parallel with the strip, to pass over a moving pulley block (7,8) on each side. A cable connects each of the moving blocks with an energy absorption unit (9,10) which may be of oil damped turbine vane type. The aircraft arrester hook thus has two chances of catching a wire and the distance moved by the damper cable is halved.
