Abstract

The ladle is fitted with a funnel on its base and on the bottom end of the funnel is a detachable casting pipe. The casting pipe is held onto the funnel by a lever bar mounted on a pivot; one end of the bar holds the casting pipe against the funnel, whereas the other end of the bar is loaded by a counterweight. The bar pref. uses a fork end to hold a ring seat in which the top of the casting pipe rests. Used in the continuous casting of steel slabs or billets where the molten metal flows from a bottom-pour ladle into a tundish and then into a mould. The casting pipe prevents the surrounding air from coming into contact with the molten metal flowing from the ladle into the tundish; and the pipe can be easily and rapidly replaced.
