Abstract

A measuring system, e.g. for checking the shape of mass-produced objects, uses a t.v. camera to record the boundaries of each two-dimensional object in polar co-ordinates. In a first step the camera determines the centre of gravity of the object surface area by quantitative comparison of the object areas on each side of the 0-180 deg. line and the 90-270 deg. line of the camera. In a second step the boundaries of the object are found in polar co-ordinates and stored, and the stored values are compared with those of a standard pattern. Pref. the values stored are differences in brightness or colour and the storage devices are shift registers.
