Abstract

An earthing rod activator has a driving rod (23) for at least one of the rod movable sections (3, 4) and a clamping device (5, 6) operated by the rod, (23) and movable along the rod (1). It has clamping jaws (7-10) applied to a corresponding rod section, and at least one arm (12, 13) operating them, extending beyond one of the jaws (8, 10). The jaws are clamped or not, depending on the position of the arm (12, 13) along the rod axis. The jaws are supported by parallelogram linkages (20, 21) each side. They can incorporate plastics linings shaped to enclose and grip the rod between them.
