Abstract

The contact fingers (42) are arranged in a cylinder, with the arcing contact (46) in its centre. The moving contact (7) has a cylinder (22) carrying the contact system and an insulating nozzle (33). A relatively heavy main moving contact (44) is mounted on the cylinder front edge. When the breaker is closed, it is in contact with the stationary contact fingers (42). Over relatively stationary piston (26) slides the moving contact cylinder during breaking. The main, heavy moving contact (48, 54) separates from the contact fingers before an arcing contact (46), so that the arc burns in the nozzle (33). Front ends of the stationary main contact fingers are thickened and rounded, ensuring high breakdown voltage.
