Abstract
The welded joint between prefabricated square-section concrete columns and beams is made between metal components cast into the concrete members during their fabrication. A central post (110) in the beam locates in a metal-lined socket in the base of the column (111). The lower corners of the column carry metal angles (103) which sit on four plates (106) on the top surface of the beam, and the four metal connections are subsequently welded. The lower ends of the square beam corners are recessed slightly (102) to allow unobtrusive insertion of the corner angle pieces (103).
