Abstract

The edge of the car door is fitted with a sealing strip which has a hollow, rubber extrusion (4) which forms the seal and a U-profiled reinforcing strip (1) to which the sealing strip is attached, and which clips over the door edge. The soft rubber sealing strip is provided with moulded ribs (6) on the outside, at points where the strip is bent around the door shape, and at the edges. This provides improved sealing at spots where the sealing strip is usually distorted too much to ensure a good seal. The ribs are moulded to the extrusion by incorporating two comb like shapes on the edge of the die, with the shapes rotated over each other to open and close the slots forming the ribs. As the shapes are slid to open the slots they provide a sloping edge for the ribs.
