Abstract
The drive is made to rock a cranked rod (13), cranked near (14) to and fro about the longer of its end-sections as axis; the farther end of the shorter end-section is thus moved to and fro in an arc; this moves the mower blade (14). The longer end of the rocked (cranked) rod terminates in a stirrup (16), which is spanned by the cross-bar of a T-shaped rod (17) whose other end is attached to the periphery of a driven pulley (6) by a ball bearing (18, coaxial with 17, oblique to 6): the axis of the pulley passes through the mid-point of the cross-bar of the T. As the pulley rotates, the upright of the T generates a cone, and its cross-bar rocks the stirrup (16) and so the cranked rod (13). The driven pulley (6) is coplanar with its driving pulley (8); this avoids the use of the idler pulleys usually needed to deflect the belt drive.
