Abstract

A drum similar to a brake drum, is mounted inside the wheel and fixed to the axle which runs in bearings in the chassis. The drive motor is mounted on the chassis and drives the drum via a wheel fitted with a flexible tyre and bearing on the inside surface of the drum. The fact that the drive wheel is smaller in dia. than and mounted inside the drum ensures a large area of contact as the ture is compressed against the drum surface. Either solid or inflatable drive tyres may be used, but the latter is preferred.
