Abstract
The telephone switching system for a time division multiplexed network contains several groups of active switching units with standby spare groups of switching units which can be connected to replace failed active groups. Each group (103(1)-103(30)) contains a switching unit (101) connected to the input/output channels (107) of the telephone network (109) and connected to a sequencer (105) for transmitting the time multiplexed channels to a second switching system. When one of the switching groups (101) fails the processor (102) re-assigns the channels of the failed group to a standby group of spare switching units, and hence restores the switching systems operations.
