Abstract

Slip-former or travelling shutter for the construction of large dia. inclined and hollow columns, i.e. 6 to 20 metre dia. and 100 to 150 metre high structures associated with oil drilling platforms, entails direct construction of the unit in its inclined form and utilizes a trailing inner carriage (10) working off an inverted dome-shaped base and the prior formed column (5) length with roller and jack (9) assemblies bearing on inner faces. These latter assemblies are capable of exerting lateral forces whereby the alignment of the form can be checked and adjusted. The carriage incorporates sets of rollers (9) deployed circumferentially and staggered w.r.t. its height. The carriage's leading end comprises a horizontal platform (12) supporting inner (16) and outer (14) forms and lifting jacks (18).
