Abstract

In the packaging of articles, partic, the provision of an envelope of heat-sealable sheet material around successively supplied articles, such as piles of stocks, etc., the articles follow a trajectory intersecting that of the strip of sheet material in such a way that this is curved in the form of a loop surrounding the articles. The ends of the loop are subsequently separated from the respective ends of strip of sheet and thereafter the free ends so produced on the one hand, as well as the edges of the free ends of the strip of sheet on the other hand are sealed to each other. The process not only allows an article or stack of articles to be wrapped in heat-sealable sheet, but ensures that the continuity of the strip of sheet is re-established.
