Abstract

The turbine has a propeller type wheel with blades attached to a hub rigidly fixed to a shaft. The wheel is mounted at the top of a pylon and drives a generator or pump through bevel gears. An electric motor drives a second shaft at a constant speed through reduction gears. The second shaft carries a screw engaging a nut fixed to the first shaft. If the rotational speeds of the shafts differ the screw moves longitudinally relative to the turbine shaft. An articulated linkage from the screw ot the root pins of the blades translates this movement into a rotation of the blades to vary the pitch so as to bring the turbine speed back to the reference speed.
