Abstract

The load spreading pad (10) consists of a domed piece (1) of sheet aluminium or of suitable plastic which is bonded to an under-layer (2) of flexible material such as rubber. The upper layer (1) is raised locally to form a collar (3a) around a hole for the fixing bolt (7) or screw. The lower surface of the under-layer (2) is shaped to match the local curvature of the cladding panel (9). When the screw (8) is tightened the fixing load is spread over the whole area of the under-layer (2) which is also forced into the annulus (4a) surrounding the shank of the bolt and forms a seal against the ingress of moisture.
