Abstract

Polyfunctional organo-lithium cpds. which are soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons, are prepd. by reacting mixts of (a) 10-53% (by wt.) divinylbenzene (DVB), and (b) 47-90% monovinylaromatic cpds. (MVA), with (c) low mol. wt. organo-lithium cpds. contg. up to 50C in the org. residue, in an inert org. solvent, in the presence of 10-3-10%, based on reaction soln. of an additive for accelerating or anticipating the initiating reaction between the organo-lithium cpd. (c) and the monomers (a) and (b), the DVB content in the reaction mixt. is not >30%, based on total mixt. and the molar ratio of DVB to the Li content of (c) being 0.5-6:1.
