Abstract

The process is effected using at least one moving catalyst bed, at 300-600 degrees C, 0.1-20 bar, and with an LHSV of 0.1-30 and an H2/feed molar ratio of 0.1-30. The catalyst flows downwards through the reaction zone and is progressively withdrawn from the bottom and passed to a regenerator. The regenerated catalyst is progressively returned to the top of the reaction zone so as to maintain a constant uniform high level of activity throughout the catalyst bed. Used esp. for converting 3-40C n-paraffins into olefins for use in the prodn. of biodegradable alkylaromatic sulphonate or sulphate detergents or for use as OXO process feeds. Use of the moving beds avoids the loss of catalyst activity and selectivity associated with fixed-bed operations.
