Abstract

Composite shoe insole incorporates upper and lower covers of permeable cloth outside permeable linings of non-woven fabric with pores fine enough to retain powdered activated carbon contained within the insole. The central pocket contains a layer of elastic sheet of honeycomb construction which acts as a pump in response to external pressure variations. The carbon absorbs volatile odours. The pumping action keeps the insole well ventilated for purging any desorbed volatiles. The upper cover may be 'Suran' (RTM - polyvinylidene chloride) and the lower cover of a wear resistant nylon fabric. The carbon may be retained on an impregnated mat. The elastic layer may be of nylon.
