The piggery is built up from identical modules, each self contained. Each module is a building, approximately rectangular with the nursery area (31) in the centre. This is divided into eight sub-areas (51 to 54 etc) around a common central heated space (56, 57, etc). Provision (59) is made for exercise and feeding sow and litter. For weaning, the litter is moved to an area (34, 35 etc) alongside, and with older, the same litter is moved to another similar area (38, 39 etc) within the central space. Fro fattening, there are stalls (43 to 46 etc;) around the sides of the building, the pigs progressing along as they are fattened. A gangway (79) divides this area from the nursery.
