Abstract

The size limit for the smallest particles at about 1.5 mm. (when loaded into the tyre and prior to any size redn. by attrition within the rolling tyre). The lubricant should be a medium viscosity mixt. having one component which is volatile at the temps. developed in the tyre when rolling deflated, and one component, which remains liq. under such conditions. The polystyrene particles are suitable for loaiding tubed or tubeless tyres. The tube/tyres may be loaded directly instead of measuring particle quantities by wt. or vol. prior to filling. The desired range of small particles is rapidly generated from the larger particles by mutual erosion. Volatilisation of the low b.pt. constituent of the lubricant partially compensates for air loss to maintain tyre equilibrium while losing speed.
