Abstract

In the cyclone the space between the two walls constitutes a preheating space for the incoming air for combustion and a cooling space for the furnace gases. There may be baffles in this space, to ensure turbulent flow. Opt., in addn. to the two walls, there is a canopy in the sepn. space in the cyclone. Solids can fall between the edges of the canopy and the inner wall of the cyclone, into the space below the canopy. This space has an inlet and an outlet for air. The inlet is connected to the sapce between the walls and the outlet is connected to the pipe feeding air or oxygen to the furnace. The plant is simpler to construct, takes up less space and costs less than existing plants, because the furnace gases are cooled and the solids are sepd. in the same unit, where heat is transferred efficiently from the furnace gases to the combustion air or oxygen, and where the solids are cooled before being discharged from the separator. In the form with a canopy, solid particles are cooled by direct contact with air.
