Abstract

The wall has rectangular parallelpipedal cavities. Each cavity (12) has a face opening onto the surface (14) of the wall facing the source of noise. The design of the hole can be varied but should be predominantly a horizontal slot. Each cavity (12) is part-filled with sand, wood-shavings or fibreglass etc. with the surface (17) of the material sloping from the bottom front edge of the wall-cavity to the top at the back, and deadens any noise entering through the hole (13). A decorative effect is obtained by the reliefs formed in the shape of continuous, horizontal ridges (20). The wall can be erected from groups of prefabricated cavities.
