Abstract

Photographic recording of light and shade is employed to obtain the shape and dimensions of contours of an inaccessible object at a distance. This technique is used where moulding or mathematical determination is not possible on fragile or original objects. The shape and dimensions of a large object (10) are obtained by photographing (P1, P2) simultaneously areas of light and shade on the object when light is projected (70) onto it. The cameras (P1, P2) and light projector (70) are mounted on a carriage (72) which moves uniformly in a direction (74) perpendicular to the projection plane. The cameras are mounted equidistant from the object and photograph at a plane of projection (76) separating light and shade. The photographs are superimposed to reproduce the object for modelling.
