Abstract

The sound-proof chamber doubles as an echo chamber and is used in research into all kinds of sounds and noises. It has outer walls made of sound insulating panels consisting of two sheets of metal enclosing a layer of fibrous material then a cavity on the other side of which are the inner chamber walls, also made of sandwich panels. The cavity is used for ventilation and heating and communication between the chamber and the outside is through a lock chamber. Depending on whether the chamber is used as a sound-proof or as an echo chamber, the lining of the inside walls is made of sound-absorbent or rigid reflecting material. Electromagnetic protection of the chamber is ensured by metal elements sunk into the outside walls. The chamber is mounted on a dish-shaped raft connected by an anti-vibration mechanism to the main raft on which the outside walls are supported.
