Abstract

A mould for producing expanded plastic articles is in two parts (a) and is surrounded by a steam chamber. Each mould part (a) has ducts (b) through which heating or cooling fluid can pass so that the mould can be heated or cooled without the fluid entering into contact with the expanded plastic and so that the steam chamber is not directly heated or cooled. The method is used partic. for producing expanded polystyrene articles. The expanded plastic articles are not wetted by the heating or cooling fluid and do not require subsequent drying, thereby providing a more efficient process.
