Abstract
A heat processing plant is claimed for drying and sterilising the effluent, droppings, waste etc. from industrial hen-houses, broiler houses, hen batteries etc. The waste is treated in a closed vessel by rotary agitation and high temp. e.g. 150 degrees C, produced by heat transfer from hot gases. Pref. the hot gases are delivered by a fan from a combustion chamber fitted with a gas or oil burner which is supplied with a mixt of vapours extracted from the vessel and a proportion of fresh air. The total, or greater part, of the combustion chamber's output of hot gases transfers heat to the exterior of the vessel wall, any balance of hot gases, e.g. up to 25%, being blown into the vessel for direct contact heating of the prodt. The plant pref. comprises two or more, vertical, cylindrical, interchangeable vessels. Prod. discharge from the vessel is pref. by reversed motion of the rotary agitator. The plant is used for drying and sterilising hen-house, waste to mfr. a high protein supplement for cattle feed etc. The plant is compact, packaged and is easily installed and is thermally efficient and economical to operate. It ensures the elimination of physiological risks to prod. consumers.
