Abstract

The postal sorting system includes a conveyor with an automatic control system for the feed of sacks of parcels on a belt conveyor. At the discharge end is arranged a set of e.g. four chutes, each with three alternative channels (3,4,5) to discharge the sacks to the next station. Each channel carries a detector (22) to monitor the filled or empty stat eof the channels. Between each chute and the channels below are two independently operated swinging flaps (1,2). When a sack is discharge into the chute, the flaps can be operated by the control system, depending on signals from the sectors (22) to divert the sack to any selected channel of the three. The sack falls by gravity through the channel, past further flaps (7,8,9) at the bottom onto a conveyor below.
