Abstract

New sulphonamides are of formulae (I) and (II) (where X is O or S; R is H, lower alkyl or aryl; R1 is H, lower alkyl, aralkyl or aryl opt. ring-substd.; R2 is aralkyl (opt. ring-substd.), heterocyclyl-substd. alkyl, alkoxyalkyl or hydroxyalkyl; n=1-2; and is H or alkali cation esp. Na or K). (I) are prepd. from (II) by reacting with NH2R2 and opt. converting the obtd. (I; Z=H) to a salt. (I) are diuretics useful e.g. in treating essential hypertension which may be complicated by cardiac, renal or hepatic insufficienty and to create a negative sodium balance. They canbe given p.o. or i.v. and are active for several hrs., the usual dose being 1-8 mg/kg/day (adult) or 1-4 mg/kg/day (child).
