Abstract

Amino-cephem derivs. of formula (I): (where R1A is an amino-protecting gp. and R1b is H or an acyl gp. Ac, or R1A and R1b together form a divalent amino-protecting gp. R2A together with the carbonyl gp. forms a protected carboxy residue, and R3 is H or an opt. substd. aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon residue), e.g. 7 beta-(D-alpha-t-butyloxycarbonylamino-alpha-phenylacetamido)-3-am- ino-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid diphenylmethyl ester, and their salts are prepd. by reacting 3-hydroxy cpds. of formula (II) with a salt of an amine H2NR3 in the presence of a tertiary aromatic amine and opt. converting a cpd. obtained into a salt or a salt obtained into the free cpd. (I) are intermediates for antibiotically active cephem derivs. e.g. cephalosporins carrying an acylamino gp. in the 3-position, which have activity against microorganisms such as Gram-positive bacterial (e.g. Staphylococcus aureus or resistant Staphylococci).
